DAZED inspired editorial issue
Written by Mariachiara Di Costanzo
This project develops a full editorial blueprint modelled on the ethos and tempo of Dazed, a magazine where cultural critique intersects with visual experimentation. The aim was to design an editorial ecosystem that blends strategic planning with creative disruption, allowing a publication to move fluidly between fashion, music, and socio-political narratives without losing coherence.
The work involved building a complete editorial structure: audience mapping, content pillars, tone of voice definition, contributor strategy, and a flatplan for an original isue concept. Each section was conceived to mirror Dazed’s hybrid identity - part cultural barometer, part aesthetic provocateur - while maintaining a distinct conceptual spine.
The project explored how an editor shapes narrative arcs, how stories must speak to each other, and how visual language can reinforce or challenge editorial intent. It also addressed practical frameworks: scheduling, workflow, cross-platform adaptation, and the collaboration between writers, stylists, photographers, and art direction.
This project argues that contemporary editorial content cannot rely solely on instinct or aesthetics. It must be structured, intentional, and strategically porous, able to absorb cultural shifts in real time while preserving a clear point of view. The resulting plan outlines how an editorial team can create work that is both culturally relevant and creatively uncompromising.
